Hi Scot!
Seems you have made a great contact!
So please ask that nice guy, what?s about the lubrification, that DEFINITIVELY had been changed.
The disc problem, that occured in summer 2000 (also with me) caused to block the film transport TOTALLY, loud rattling noise, camera recognizing "film end" in the beginning of the cart.
Other carts which were not blocking, didn?t show any jitter.
The jitter problem may have two reasons:
(a) lubrification only, disc is ok. Depending on the tolerances of the pressure plate of the cart, jitter accures, as the lub has been changed and is no longer optimized to the cart construction and originally designed film friction at the plate.
(b) lubrification & disc.
in cardriges, where the disc have no perfect surface or tolerance, the different lubrification allows the film to jitter.
I think, Kodak should now, what exactly is the problem and inform and resolve. The product is nothing cheap and the customers using S8 are usually very critical. If not, they would use video.
Up to now, at least here in Germany, Kodak had been promising that every thing will be o.k. again with every new batch released.
But the only thing they obviously did, they increased the prices quite a lot.
I?m very curious about the 2005 batch. Up to now, I have 9 carts at home with 2003 and 2004, and I am afraid using my triplet for shooting.

You might find that has more to do with how Amazon express things - than what Kodak are doing HOPEFULLY! -- try and get it from Kodak's mouth

Just been talking to my rep at Kodak again and he said the batch number only applied for K40 carts - he said he thought the other carts would be fixed too but he didn't know what the numbers for them would be. He didn't know anything bout the lubrication issue either. I asked him about finding out more information and he wasn't keen purely because they had such a hard time getting the information out of Kodak France the first time. He's a pretty nice bloke and I don't want to push him, so I'd like to leave it there with him - but I suggest people follow it with their reps - or email Kodak France directly - check this thread for the contact details: http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/Forum239/HTML/002226.html
maybe if heaps of people bombard them they'll get off their backsides and make some official statement -- also maybe you might be able to get more info from your contacts Pedro
Sorry to leave it there - but I'm sure there are plenty of people who can follow it up as well

My latest informations are, that Kodak (Germany) is delivering K40 again, for the first time in 2002. They claim that the stock now is totally failure-free. As they had claimed this several times before, we will see what happens. Well - happy testing!
